Where Disco Lives.
How many times have you thought of moving out of this City?
For years now, my wife has expressed her desire to leave Miami and settle somewhere quieter, less congested, and more serene—a place where the pace of life slows down and we can escape the hustle of this city. And I get it. Miami is vibrant, but it’s also noisy, crowded, and constantly on the move. A more tranquil city sounds appealing, especially as I approach the end of my career, preparing to retire from my day job. But there’s one thing I can't bring myself to leave behind: the music, specifically the spirit of disco that pulses through the very soul of this city.
You see, my relationship with music—particularly disco—goes far beyond just the beats and rhythms. It's intertwined with the fabric of who I am, and Miami has been the perfect backdrop to this lifelong passion. The events I create and the communities that cherish the genre—the love of disco here is not just about nostalgia; it's alive, it's celebrated, and it’s my lifeblood. Moving to another city would mean not only leaving behind the vibrant energy of Miami but also a piece of myself.
The truth is, in most other places, disco is viewed through a lens of ridicule. People laugh at its colorful history, dismissing it as a fleeting moment in pop culture from the late '70s and early '80s. They see it as a brief novelty that disappeared just as quickly as it came, reduced to a punchline in the mainstream's retelling of music history. But to us, to those who have lived through it and continue to honor it, disco is more than that. It’s a movement, a feeling, an escape that defines moments in time.
In Miami, disco is revered. It’s in the air at clubs, echoing through the night as crowds lose themselves to the beats. The city, with its Latin-infused flavor and eclectic culture, has always had a unique love affair with the genre. We grew up with it—dancing to it, loving it, and creating a culture that was uniquely Miami. And now, as I edge closer to the possibility of retiring from my career, the idea of giving up my role as a DJ in this community feels impossible.
Sure, I might be ready to step back from the daily grind of my professional life, but I can’t walk away from the music. DJing is not just a hobby; it's a calling. It’s the passion that keeps me alive, and there’s nothing more fulfilling than playing the music I love for a crowd that truly understands it. Miami’s disco scene has kept this genre alive for decades, and the crowds that continue to pack the clubs are proof that it’s not just a relic of the past. They’ve grown up with it, just as I have. We’ve shared those late nights, those electric moments, those unforgettable sets that transport us back to the times when disco ruled the dance floor.
Moving away to a quieter, more tranquil place might bring peace in many ways, but it would also mean leaving behind the pulse of Miami’s disco culture. It would mean no longer being surrounded by a community of passionate fans who share my love for the music. I don’t think I could find that same level of fervent admiration for disco anywhere else. It’s not just a style of music here—it’s a part of our identity.
And so, the dilemma stands: Do I trade the tranquility of a new city for the vibrant energy of Miami and the music that defines me?
I think I know the answer. Disco lives here, in the hearts of the people who love it and in the clubs where the music still plays loud and proud. For me, there’s no reason to walk away .You guys keep coming out , supporting this music. . Miami may be chaotic at times, but it’s home—and it’s where the music lives on.
