Remembering Jimmie Elias " Jimmie E" : A Miami DJ Legend

Remembering Jimmie Elias " Jimmie E" : A Miami DJ Legend

Jimmie Elias, known to his friends and fans as Jimmie E, was a beloved figure in Miami’s music scene, whose influence stretched far beyond his decades-long career as a DJ. Starting his journey in the early 70s, Jimmie was a pioneer in the city's vibrant nightlife and dance culture. He passed away on December 22, leaving behind a legacy that will never fade.
Jimmie’s passion for music and life was infectious, and his impact on Miami's disco scene is undeniable. He made his mark early, opening the first teen disco on Calle Ocho, Salon Azul, a landmark that introduced many to the magic of dance music. Over the years, he went on to own several iconic nightclubs in Miami, including Infinity’s, The Ren, and The Club at Renaissance. These venues were not just places to dance—they were sanctuaries of music, hosting countless concerts that preserved the spirit of the 70s and 80s.
What set Jimmie apart was not just his musical talent, but his generosity and the love he gave to those around him. He was known for treating everyone like family, and his kindness towards fellow DJs was one of his most memorable traits. For Jimmie, friendship meant being a brother, a father figure, and a guide. When you were his friend, you were part of his world, and he made sure you knew it.
Jimmie’s influence reached all corners of Miami's music community, and countless DJs, both young and seasoned, were touched by his passion and expertise. His spirit lives on in the music we continue to play, the disco beats that echo through Miami’s clubs. Though we grieve his loss deeply, we know his legacy will never fade.
Last Saturday, just one day after being released from the hospital, Jimmie played his final party at the Kiwanis Gala. It was exactly what he wanted, and it’s exactly what he did. The smile on his face spoke volumes. We can all take inspiration from the way he lived his life.
Jimmie, you will always be loved, and your light will continue to shine through the music you left behind. Thank you for everything. We miss you, but you will never be forgotten.
With Love, Your DJ Family

Los Quinces by Alex Gutierrez

It’s funny how an old picture can pull you straight back into a moment you thought time had buried. Suddenly you’re not just looking at it—you’re there . You feel the same rush, the same ache, the same quiet hope you carried then. All those emotions and experiences, the ones that shaped who you became, come flooding back at once. This picture did that to me. This was my inspiration. Chapter 1 I wasn’t very popular in high school. Not tragically unpopular , more like Cuban-background-noise unpopular. I was there, but no one acknowledged my existence unless they needed an extra chair or to chase the ball when it went out-of-bounds.. I hung around some popular guys, hoping popularity was contagious, like the flu or bad cologne. Nothing rubbed off. For most of 10th grade (which I hear they now call freshman, because apparently everything got renamed), I was completely invisible. At lunch I’d sit quietly, pretending to be deep in thought, while eavesdropping on the table next to me liste...

That brings me to a standout track that has earned its place in my playlists: Michael Gray - You Got To Remember (featuring Tatiana Owens).
